Michael Kaurene has felt the magic of acting since age five when he played the squirrel in Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. “That’s not your house, little girl!” fueled a passion that has been going strong for decades.
From the elementary school stage, Michael would go on to the University of Hartford where he hosted a late-night show and performed stand-up comedy. Making people laugh created another magical feeling the thespian loved. After undergrad, the comedian came home to Philadelphia where he got a job as a drama teacher at a private high school. The high school did not have time to acquire the rights to a play so Michael created, wrote, produced, choreographed, designed, wardrobed and acted in an interactive-show inspired by Tony and Tina’s Wedding.
Teaching drama felt like a rush but it wasn’t the magic that Michael was looking for so he turned his sights to learn about another interesting aspect of acting and got a job working under the casting expertise of the one and only Mike Lemon. This job turned into a mentorship where Mike Lemon helped teach what made some of the amazing actors he has cast like Denzel Washington, Scarlett Johansson, Dakota Fanning and Tom Hanks so successful.
Michael would move on to Drexel University where he graduated with a Master’s degree in gaming and subsequently became a sleight-of-hand master. During grad school this student found an opportunity to stand-in full-time on a movie that lead to another movie that lead to full-time work on set. Switching focus, his then-manager got him an audition for Magic Hour that Michael booked, and that turned out to be a working title for Wonder Woman 1984; where he played a punk.
When there aren’t lines to be studied you can usually find Michael at the skatepark doing kickflips on a quarter-pipe or at parties performing roaming coin and card magic for entertained guests. This magician co-owned a children’s entertainment company, until the pandemic, where he was often seen blowing balloon bicycles, juggling all sorts of citrus and spinning fire around his body.
Since then Michael has dealt cards to the Tick, played drums At Home with Amy Sedaris and almost got murdered by the Godfather of Harlem.
…what will we see him do next?
